The first ones had a lot lighter barrels than the reissue of the 16. I have an 870 16 ga. SKEET model from 1952, both the barrel and receivers are serial numbered to each other. WebJun 15, 2015 · 870, I always thought the 1148's fit me better than an 870. I thought the older ones had a little more drop to the stock. Either way they are my favorite Remington semiauto. An 1148 16 gauge or 20 gauge is one of the sweetest shooting guns made IMHO.
